Supreme 90-Day 1

21 03 2011

Today is day 1 of my new fitness/nutrition routine.  I just got back from getting some specialty items at Whole Foods that I can’t get in any old grocery store and in about 30 minutes, will start my first workout.  The chart is on my fridge, and that fridge and pantry are stocked with great healthy foods (as always, but now its overflowing).

Supreme 90 is a 90 day workout routine (from the makers of P90x), but with my hopes of not getting bored and making the whole 90 days.  It also only cost $32 with shipping-extra motivational there!  The routines are switched more often with my rest day falling on different days of the week, so “chest and back” are not always on monday (thank god).  It’s much simpler to follow and the diet is written for you on what to eat every meal, and I’m excited and ready to go.  I’ll keep you posted as I go, in 90 days I’ll be a new, stronger, me!

Rising elevation

21 05 2010

The one thing I miss more than anything about leaving Arizona…the hiking!  I miss how I could drive a few miles and hike up Thunderbird, or drive downtown and challenge myself at camelback or squaw peak.  The great feeling I got when I made it to the top, all sweaty and shaky legs, but how great it really felt!

Well, this weekend I will get to experience something similar again, as my sister and I will be heading to Enchanted Rock to go hiking!

Of course, this is not on as large a scale as the others, but it will come in close, and the time with my sister will make it exciting!  To feel the crisp warm air, to feel my muscles being used in that way again, exciting!

Top Running Songs

19 09 2009

It’s hard to stay motivated when you are running.  The fact that I can’t use any music when running my race kills me, at least its a rock and roll marathon and bands will be playing along the way.  While I do run, here are some songs that keep me pumped:

Sixx AM-Life is beautiful

Shinedown-Second chance, Devour

HInder-use me

Baby bash-cyclone

Anything by Three Days Grace or Theory of a deadman

Miranda Lambert-Gunpowder and lead

Miley Cyrus-see you again

destiny’s child-survivor

Cavo-champagne

Katy perry-waking up in vegas

Cobra starship-good girls go bad

Breaking Benjamin-until the end, cold, diary of jane

Lots of Nickelback

Five finger death punch-never enough

Rihanna and Bon Jovi

So much more but these are a few of my favs.  Some come and go the more I listen to them, the more I get annoyed by them and then they gain their popularity again later.  You know how it goes.  Use whatever makes your heart race and pumps you up!

Half marathon Training

19 09 2009

For 4 weeks now I have been preparing for the San Antonio Rock and Roll Half Marathon…a whopping 13.1 miles (seems so far to me).  I have 8 weeks to go until the big day.  I run here and there, according to my training schedule.  I mix in cycling, weights, etc.  But today was my first long run…7 miles.  It seems so far doesn’t it?  7 miles!  I woke up to rain.  Great, now I have to go run on the treadmill.  I got to the gym and hopped on the woodway (the best treadmill out there).  The first two miles sucked.  I had a cramp in my side and I knew I had 5 more to go.  About mile 4 I felt good, about mile 5 my deodorant was wearing off and I started to feel bad for those around me lol.  But I made it, even walking for about 4 minutes mid way.  I still managed the 7 miles in 64 minutes.  Wow right?  I predicted to end the race in 2 1/2 hours, roughly 10 minute miles.  The way I ran today would be roughly 2 hours, quite an improvement.

I think a big thing that helped me was running on this:

altgThe Alter G.  Its an anti gravity treadmill.  You put on these neoprene shorts and then zip up inside of it, it fills with air and you can take up to 80% of the weight off your body.  It literally lifts you up as you run so you can run faster.  I ran 4 miles in 30 minutes on it last week if that tells you anything about how much faster you can train.  But do not underestimate the power of the alter g…I was sore the next day.  If anyone can try one, I recommend it.  It’s great for just the average person and for those with injuries.

I’ve come to realize and finally get it down to a science, what I should eat before I run.  One slice of high fiber wheat bread with one tablespoon LF peanut butter and some honey.  Digests fast but has the carbs to keep me going.  All runners should try!

Off to recover and elevate my legs!

New shoes for hitting the pavement

6 05 2009

I got some new shoes!  Who doesn’t love new shoes right?!  But see, I can count it as a business expense!

I have a couple clients that want to train for a 10K (6.2 miles for those of you who don’t know).  It would be necessary for me to get news shoes.  So I got the Puma Voltaic for women.   I searched all over the malls for this to no avail (but I did find a dress for my sister’s graduation so not a total loss).  Finally a nice man in Finish Line (where I would have gotten 20% off) reminded me of the Puma store in Westagate, by the Cardinals stadium!  Alas, I crossed town and ta da, I am in my new kicks, pink and white!

imagesOut for a run now!

Resolutions of 2008, did they work?

30 12 2008

Looking back at an old blog, these were my resolutions or things I was going to try to do in 2008.  Kind of funny when I look at them.  My own comments at the end of this year are in parenthesis

1) Drink more wine.  I’ve started a wine journal and no matter how cheap or expensive, I’m going to sample wines and keep track of them in my journal.  I’ll make up my own methods of tasting wine. (I’d say I’ve tried about 5-6 new bottles, but all in all, I dont like the feeling the next day and I dont like drinking them on my own)

2) Do not stress as much.  Things usually get done themselves, or get done eventually, and things work out.  Take a breath, or whatever I need (some wine) and relax.   (This has probably been the most sressful year of my life…nuff said)

3) Read a book a month.  This month….the Kite Runner.  If I get more than one then Bravo!  ( I excelled in this one, I’ve probably read close to 20 or so books this year!)

4) Not obsess over exercise and such.  I know I’ll work out, at least 5 days a week I do.  I try hard and still look good, no worries right?   (Um…I did a figure competition, again nuff said)

5) Pay off debt.  Its so tempting to buy even the simplist things…things I need, workout clothes, movies, a treat meal, etc…..but debt needs to go DOWN!   (This is still going down, little at a time)

6) Get farther ahead at Bally Total Fitness.  I would like to get established as a reputable trainer and then move up in the company by the end of the year.  Get a good foot in the door in 2 years time when it comes time to move.  (well, I am now an idependent trainer and bally’s is going out of business)

7) Laugh more.  Not that I dont….but more  (Oh yeah, Joey helps a lot with this one)

8) MORE PATIENCE…I’m getting better at this one…but I need more.  HELP!  (this will always be a constant battle…always)

I don’t think I will really be doing resolutions this year.  The way I see it, I’m always trying to better myself and really, who needs the extra stress of trying to live up to something you set?!  Yes I believe in GOALS, but those are different.  Just relax, laugh more, and enjoy every minute of your life, you only live once!
