An apology is worth 1000 hugs

16 03 2011

It’s amazing how one word can draw upon so many emotions in your life.  Someone could say, “I”m sorry for your loss,” and can break tears.  “I’m sorry for the way I treated you,” can evoke a relief of hatred or anger towards someone.  “I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” can make you have renewed feelings for someone.  “I’m sorry you had to go through that,” and you feel relief that someone understands.

Just one apology can let go of all these feelings you may have had towards someone in an instant.  I think that’s amazing.  One can be sooo angry at a person, but all they need is an apology, and it all goes away, Poof, gone.  It feels like someone gave you 1000 hugs and a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders, like someone else is sharing your burden.

Just make sure that your apology is never too late.  Don’t hold back because it could be too late, and you could have a burden weighing on your shoulders for the rest of your life.  Take the time to say sorry and relieve someone else’s burden, be a bigger person and you will be surprised at how much respect you actually gain in turn.

The little details in the home

9 03 2011

I told you all I was being crafty and making flower arrangements and I wanted to share what I made!  I feel it’s the little touches in your house that make it a home.

In the living room:

In the master bathroom:

In the master bedroom:

I got this little lizard in Cabo for my kitchen, really goes well with my paintings and margarita glasses!

I got this painting in Cabo as well, to add to my master bathroom and remind me of my new favorite place.  This was a finger painting, if you can belive that!

What?

26 03 2010

I know I’m getting a little bit older.  You know how I know?  I had to look up what EMAW meant on urbandictionary.com.  Sad, b/c I’m a K-State alumni too.  But all I have to say now is EMAW!  (Every Man a Wildcat, in case you did not know).

I have such pride right now, my team making it to the Elite 8!  I can’t wait to visit next month and collect more memorabilia.  Funny now I lived there for so long and did not buy enough stuff, and now I want to go collect more.  I’m going to be one of those crazy alumni buying tons of stuff at Varney’s lol!  But hey, once a wildcat, always a wildcat!

Simple acts of kindness

5 11 2009

Joey and I have been so busy lately with the house hunting, paperwork, dealing with work issues, finding things we need for the house, etc.  So we decided to take a break and head to the Flying Saucer last night for some beers.  It was crowded and the only table was with a man sitting by himself at a table for 6.  We joined him and chatted for a few minutes and then had the spacious table all to ourselves.  We chatted like normal people on a date and watched the baseball game.  Then another couple sat with us, around our age, seemed like nice people.  We did not talk but they enjoyed a few beers and left.  Then a group of 5 adults came and sat with us, 2 had to sit somewhere else b/c the table had no room.  They were a happy bunch, celebrating a retirement.  So happy they bought our last drink.  Two of them were from San Antonio, one from california and the rest from Phoenix.  So you KNOW we had a lot to chat about, seeing is I just moved from there.  We were having a great time and come to find out, they all were in town for a conference b/c they all work for USAA.  Well, if you do not know, I have EVERYTHING USAA, accounts, cards, loans, insurance…everything.  They were just thrilled to hear this and this only fueled their happiness to be around us.  The night does end for us working people so we got our check and as soon as I took out my USAA card, they cheered again.  As I passed my tab to the waitress, one of the gentlemen took my card, tossed it back at me, and paid for our tab.  It was a simple act, not too expensive but it was enough to help us out, especially with us paying down our debt and getting a new house.  That act of kindness reminds me that there are good people out there and I hope I can return that favor one day to other unsuspecting couples/families.

In keeping in line with Jeni’s theme…these are things I love about fall:

Bonfires

Warm sweaters

Sleeping in the hammock with a blanket

Hot chocolate

Wearing thick socks around the house

Cinnamon sticks

Trendy jackets

The crisp air when you first go outside

No frizzies 🙂

Fall walks

The smell of wet leaves

Soup in a breadbowl on a rainy day

Thanksgiving and family

I love the change of season, although I will definately miss summer.  This next year will bring about good things and lots of love, happiness, and good times!

Vision 2010

23 09 2009

I worked on a financial plan for Joey and myself this morning in excel and I’m quite proud of myself.  I like to call it “Vision 2010”, our views on our finances for 2010 and where we want to be.  It’s divided into an income section, stating all our sources and how much.  Then it’s divided into an expense side, stating all the bills, what is owed, etc.  I will be documenting each month as the bills go down, savings, go up, and what extra we have to go onto other bills.  Reason being is we do not want to have to rent for a year now.  We’d like to save up to buy a house.  If we can sell our two trailers and two bikes, our bills will be mostly paid and within one to two months, we can be debt free.  That is very crazy to think, but it makes me excited.  Then we can save for a few more months, start looking for houses, and possibly get a new bike for Joey with the house, and a ring for me!

I’m typing this not only to stay organized, but so we can present this to my mom and dad and show them our goals and what we are working towards, so they know that we are not just “living there” to live there.  We have set goals, dreams, and where we want to be.  Yes, its nice to live at home, but I am a grown up and even though they know I’m responsible, I want to show them more and how much they are appreciated.  They don’t see me going out to eat or spending it on random things all the time and I think that helps.  Yes, it sucks to stay home sometimes, but I think of that vision, and it’s not worth going to the saucer all the time ( sad, I know), or spending money on something I don’t really need.

So I need that encouragement from you all to keep me going.  Vision 2010-doing it right this time!

Sizing up and acceptance

10 06 2009

Today, I went through my clothes again (I seem to do this monthly) and tossed out 8, yes 8, pairs of jeans.  You know the ones…you hold on to them “hoping” you will fit into them again someday.  Well let me tell you, that someday has been a few years away at this point and it’s time to let go.  I’m sad that I had to get rid of them b/c I know how hard it is to find jeans and I hate the money factor.  This winter, I will find a couple pairs that I am comfortable with to join the ranks of my good ones that I still have.

As much as I wish I did fit into them, I am comfortable with myself.  Not a comfortable as in accept that I’ve gained weight, but a comfortable with the way I look and how I feel.  Even though I do not fit into a size 3/4 anymore, my body has more muscle and looks better than ever!   I still can wear size small in most things, I should be happy for that.  As I become more accepting, I think I feel and look happier, and that shows in my work as well.  My clients will be happy where they are comfortable when they have a model of inspiration to guide them!  🙂   My body takes me where I want it to, it hikes, it lifts weights, it runs, it plays and its happy!  Too bad these feelings were not there years ago at that age when most struggle for this acceptance of themselves.  I will now just do my best to pass this on and teach my kids the same.  Your body grows into what it should and what it’s made to do, keep it strong and healthy and you will be strong and healthy.

It also means I get to discover new places to get clothes and shop!  LOL

PS-I will be taking all my clothes to the clothing exchange at Twice as Nice-Sarah, be jealous!

Muffins and making the most

10 06 2009

” I make the most of all that comes, and the least of all that goes.”  ~Sara Teasdale 1884-1933

What a way to start my day while drinking my tea!  I will make what comes of today.  Things are starting to go positive for me and I’m in a much better mood.

I felt like making something yesterday so I baked banana nut muffins…but with my own twists 😉  Here is the recipe!

Banana Nut Muffins

(I doubled everything and made alot b/c I passed them out to my clients)

1/3 C skim milk

1/4 c apple butter (instead of oil)

1 large egg

1 c all purpose flour

1 c whole wheat flour

1/2 splenda brown sugar

2 tsp baking powder

dash of salt

1 c mashed bananas

Extra by me:

Splashes of fiber sure

cinnamon

chopped nuts

2 scoops banana creame pudding protein powder

1) Heat oven to 400 and grease muffins pans.

2) Beat milk, apple butter and egg in large bowl.  Stir in flour, sugar, baking powder and salt at once until just moistened.  Add mashed bananas and nuts and cinnamon.  Add protein powder last, to retain value.  Divide into muffin tins.

3) Bake 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.  Let sit about 5 minutes before removing.

These muffins will have extremely less fat, more protein and fiber than your average muffin.  And they taste AWESOME!  Let’s see what the verdict is via my clients huh?

Britney Spears at my gym!

23 04 2009

Tomorrow night Britney Spears is giving a concert in Phoenix.  She is supposedly getting  a massage near my training studio, Oasis Personal Training, and asked if she could workout there.  I have a client at 10:30 (now b/c of her lol) and we will take our chances right?  Not going to bother her unless she says its ok.  But I’ll keep you posted.  I just want a pic with her and maybe give her an exercise or two so I can say I trained her.  You never know, she may hire me!  Dream big!!!

UPDATE: She never came, figures!
